I've read a lot of Japanese women getting the double eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, ect so I got to wondering what the basic standard for most of Japan is beauty-wise. Like the counterpart to the long legged, tan busty blonde in America. What kind of nose, eyes, hair, ect are considered ';beautiful'; or ';ideal'; in Japan? Like why is a high bridged nose so popular? Can you please give me a general idea (and if possible, pictures of the features you're talking about)? You can post your personal opinions too. Thanks. What is the Japanese standard of beauty for women?
Your question is weird. What is the basic standard of beauty in your country? Is the stand of the US one one? that narrow?
And the word ';counterpart'; is also strange. It's your idea but not Japanese'. People don't think the US as a counterpart of beauty, but just one country in the world.
You always focus and compare Japanese' culture and the sense to the US. Why don't you ask the same question in other Asian sections? You'll find the people in each countries has various sense.
High bridged nose is not popular nation widely, but some women who suffer intensely from their ugliness get that kinda surgery.
Followings are famous TV show called ';Beauty Colosseum';.
Pictures are there.
Probably you'll focus on the surface of their look and the change only.
However, if you could understand Japanese language, you'll notice how deeply and sadly and intensely they were suffering from their ugliness.

Feel the pain of those women's heart. ';Beauty'; is the topic people talk seriously and sincerely in Japan. It's it not about standard. What is the Japanese standard of beauty for women?
Nakama Yukie is a perfect example of the ideal Japanese beauty.
i am loving J orientals answer
beauty is beauty anywhere
they wants 2-eyelid. or bigger eye.
and ahm, it depends on the girl, if she is GAL or not..
GAL wants darker make-ups and curl hair.
boobs is important also, I think.

Hmmm...
I thought you were talking about the standard of beauty?
What part of North American do YOU live in?
I think you're thinking of what may have been A standard for SOME people in North America about 60 YEARS ago.
There's a whole range of beautiful women in Japan, with different looks. Some are busty, some aren't. Some are tall, some aren't. Smooth skin is usually a plus as it is just about everywhere in the world.
In Japan, plastic surgery as a common practice is much rarer than in western countries.
It was perhaps much more common twenty or thirty years ago for women to want to emulate those people they saw in commercials and magazines from western countries. But now I'm happy to say, that the ideal for Japanese women, has generally gone back to being the Japanese woman.
Most ads with models are centered around Japanese women, while western models are more of the ';exotic beauty';, rather than the ideal.
For Japanese women, historically the ideal woman is someone feminine, naive, and overall childish (please women, don't get angry at me, this comes from the horses mouth ((my wife, who is Japanese))). So much of the idol culture is based around very young teenage girls who by western standards look barely 10 or 11 years old.
But there of course are many kinds of beauty in Japan, and this is only one.
I understand the desire to understand the differences, and thereby the similars from learning about another culture.
Joriental had it right on the mark. Beauty in Japan is more of just basically looking nice and wanting to look put together. Fixing flaws to make oneself feel better.
In America its about trying to match models, looking like celebrities. America with its ';standards'; in beauty has in actuality created unhealthy and ugly (at heart) persons. It's created anorexia, and plastic surgery junkies. If anyone recalls the MTV televison show for teenagers where they were physically (meaning plastic surgery, etc.) made over to look like their favorite celebrity.
It's only now in media you see an attempt to have girls think of their natural selves as beautiful. And shows that promote health and being beautiful by being healthy.
