Any child does NOT need anyone passing judgment on them. pageants are in my opinion BAD. why are there people that see a young child dressed up in adult looking clothing with fake everything attractive? (teeth, hair, nails, tan, eyes, makeup, etc..) That is in no way shape or form beautiful. they are taking everything that makes a child appear innocent and youthful and throwing it out the window. these pageants should be banned, they are a form of physical and mental abuse. have you ever seen a behind-the-scenes presentation of pageants and how these children cry in pain while getting their eyebrows plucked and hair extensions sewn in? its just wrong. Not to mention the emotional pain of feeling that they have to be perfect in order to be accepted. The emotional abuse is sometimes worse than the physical abuse. What are some of the cons of child beauty pageants?

i totally disagree with your 'best answer' above. i started doing pageants when i was 12 and i wasnt really attractive i was pale a little heavy and had braces. and even though i knew all of this, that night i felt like i was the prettiest girl in the room. Report Abuse
continue...i didnt win but i have done about 25 since then and i have gained IMMENSE amounts of confidence, i dont understand why people think this is degrading. Report Abuse
continue...as long as you find the right pageant system, you avoid the 'glitz' pageants where everything is fake including the personalities of the girls. Report Abuse
I'm sorry but child beauty pageants are bad. It's bad enough we have role models like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. And Jamie Lynn Spears is no better for our youth! Children are innocent and pure. They don't know what's wrong. However, the parents DO KNOW RIGHT AND WRONG!!!!!! Report Abuse
They put pressure on young children and it is soo rude to compete on what child is cuter all young children are cute
All I am going to say is Jon Benet Ramsey. Con enough. Dont let that happen to your child.
1. Lots of pressure on a young child
2. The mom may be in it more for herself than the child
3. They're expensive (all the fancy dresses)
4. They're very time consuming
5. They're not looked on very favorably by people who aren't in it, so there may be some scorn by family/friends.
6. The child may feel a lot of stress or low self esteem if she loses.
The pressure that is put on these children can lead to major self esteem problems, anorexia, bulimia and even suicide.
Beauty is NOT everything. It is only skin deep. Why put your child in a situation where everytime they loose they feel worse and worse.
I disagree with the other people. Well kinda. A baby I dont believe should get involved in it. Much less a small child 3-6ish in age. Now a teenager should beable to make there own decision if they want to do it or not. It's fun to do, you get to dress up get your hair done and ect. If its not taken serious and when the child is ready to stop, dont keep them in it.
