How important is beauty in American society?

So I have this project.

beauty is essential in society because honestly, nobody likes looking at not only ugly animals or objects but ugly people as well. this is not peoples fault but yet it is their opinion on beauty and just as a rose catches the eye of people and makes them stop and look, so do people that are found to have beauty. I don't think it's important as much as it is advantageous to the ';gifted'; one. Personally I am not impressed with others beauty. That's not to say I can't admire or appreciate it, because I do. It's just more appealing to me when I see beautiful character. Since my ';looks'; often get me unfair advantages I am not complaining about good looks...I just would rather that people would be judged on their character...that is most fair to all.

Dove does this campaign for ';real beauty'; I saw one of the ads they had somewhere and it did not portray real beauty. Someone also revealed a video of it about how much photoshop was being used on these photos. ';Real'; right! They put some plus sized models up and thought that portrayed real beauty enough but it's not all about size. That's like saying all skinny and average bodies are not beautiful





-it's important enough to the point of eating disorders (even males)





-models are getting smaller every year. the average woman usually has a body similar to Marylin Monroe opposed to Twiggy.





-models have to be tall. beauty comes in all sizes. it's not limited to one thing but this has been drilled in people's mind by influence of society.





-Gemma Ward took a year off and she came back having a really beautiful body that has CURVES. everyone calls her fat because she's not stick thin. She looks healthy now but since people kept calling her fat.. She's going back on a diet and whatever.








I'm sure you'll find some studies and data about eating disorders. There's also body disorders like body dysmorphic (which I have)
It is TOO important.....you see it around you everywhere you go via t.v., magazines, radio, street signs, etc. highlighting beauty. Americans spend WAY too much money in ';beautifying'; themselves....There are t.v. shows that focused solely of making someone look better. This type of programming was not even thought of back in the days. It's a shame that the intensity of looking a certain way is just growing by the minute because everything is so readily available through technology.
Beauty is probably the most sought after trait in America. Everyone wants to be beautiful because. in their minds, with beauty comes acceptance, love and power. However, beauty won't get you an education. There is so much more to life besides beauty.

it is very important, everyone on t.v. is made up to be beautiful because people believe average is ugly and getting old is curse.





the amount of beauty products purchased in the U.S, is probably enough to finance a small country. people will do almost anything to be beautiful.
