What people commonly term beauty is difficult, we live in a world which is influenced by the Media and TV to define what beauty is? When the Great Plague happened Fat people were in and in Africa as they lived longer. In our society were food is in abundance. Thin is in.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30
Favour is another word for Charm, Someone who is charming is hiding something.
Beauty is a thing that is temporary as it will last but a moment.
Even personality if someone is nice or hot? How do you define Nice you do not know who they are?
Jer 17:9 - Show Context
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Do we have to have a plumbline on what beauty is?Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder or is there a standard?
Excellent question. It touches on many areas: art, philosophy, sociology, mass communications, psychology, and even the ';hard'; sciences like statistics, biology, genetics, etc.
You have addressed one of the most ancient and universal questions. It can be directed or focussed on many subjects, such as male or female physical beauty, or the inner beauty we often see in physically unattractive people, or it can be generalized to the beauty we can find in nature, the universe, or even mathematics and the realm of ideas. The ancient Greek philosophers (eg: Plato) had much to say on the subject, some even went so far as to attempt an objective classification of the nature of beauty, or the ideal.
Fast forward to the present day, to the hard sciences, and we can find research into male and female perceptions of beauty in the opposite sex, using a vast array of tools ranging from questionnaires to computer-assisted face-mapping and statistical analysis that attempts to reveal the ';ideal'; facial or body type (even the ideal walking style) according to the opposite sex.
As for the more general, ';fuzzy';, purely philosophical notion of beauty, I think the only valid answer to your question is the one you already know: beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.
Also, if you look into other religions, you may find that Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, etc. have other insights of interest to you.
Spiritual ';beauty'; has nothing to do with physical beauty, of course, and it seems to be a constant and universal concern of all mankind. If you are looking for some ';objective'; never-changing truths about the nature of beauty (defined as ';what is best in humans';), I think the best sources will be found in philosophy and religion. These two areas are mankind's storehouses of universal truth. You won't find much universal truth in popular media, that's for sure.Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder or is there a standard?
There is a cultural standard of beauty, but that dissipates when people interact and unintentionally develop feelings for one another. I also believe that there is beauty within changes the way people look at a person on the outside.
I can always spot beauty the minute a person speaks. I don't know what the standard is but I believe that beauty comes from within. That kind of beauty shines.
well you can say it anyway you want it quote the bible..but beauty is youth in a lady ..nice face and body with a personality to mach.. born nice to the eye
beauty is not in external objects
they may inspire beauty
but beauty has more to do with a condition of your heart
Beauty has been an ongoing quantification since the time of Darwin. Symmetry crosses all cultures in a normal curve of distribution on what is beautiful. Obviously, the word has not gotten out to those in the humanities.
others may not find me beautiful but when my newborn looks at me with his big blue eyes as if i were absolutely everything i feel beauty it is subjective and it does depend on the beholder but i know it comes from within and no one is going to tell me different
i think beauty is found in a smile, humor, and the eyes
One, there is a study of it called aestethics. Two, no beauty is objective, I'm sure everyone finds people in animal costumes as sexy as me.
yeah beauty is the eye of the beholder
the text book answer for this is ... there is a chart between one and ten. and whereever you are on the chart you will only be able to get one above or below ... which is more than likely what you want ....
thats what they say
